The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. The trio was composed of Britons Gordon Sumner (Sting) (vocals, bass guitar) and Andy Summers (guitar, vocals) and American Stewart Copeland (drums, percussion, vocals). The group became world famous in the late 1970s and generally regarded as one of the first bands of the new wave, who achieved success from a wide audience, playing rock, with elements of jazz, punk and reggae. Their album Synchronicity in 1983, became number one in the charts in the UK and USA and was sold over 8 million copies just in the United States.
