The British original. Concerto for Group and Orchestra is a live album by the British rock band Deep Purple, recorded together with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. One of the first attempts to harmoniously combine classical music and rock music in one piece. It was released in the US in December 1969, and in the UK in January 1970. By the time of the formation of the second line-up of Deep Purple, there was a confrontation between the art-rock ambitions of Jon Lord and the hard-rock Ritchie Blackmore in the band. Lord considered the possibility of creating a work that would combine the features of classical and rock music. Deep Purple manager Tony Edwards decides to go all-in and reserves the Albert Hall for September 24, leaving Jon Lord about six months to write the score. Ritchie Blackmore was later terribly jealous of Lord that such an idea did not come to him.
