A rare early German reissue of the album. Shades of Deep Purple is the debut studio album by the British band Deep Purple. Recorded over three days (May 11-13, 1968) at Pye Studios in London. It was released in the US in July 1968 on the Tetragrammaton Records label, and in the UK in September 1968 on the Parlophone label. In the UK, the album Shades of Deep Purple almost went unnoticed and did not enter the charts, but in the US it rose to No. 24 in the Billboard 200. The most popular song was "Hush", in the fall of 1968 it reached the 4th position in the Billboard 200.
