In Through the Out Door is the eighth studio album by the British rock band Led Zeppelin, released on August 15, 1979 by the Swan Song label. The album In Through The Out Door was released with six different envelope designs made by Hipgnosis Studio. The album was sold in a package made of light brown wrapping paper, so customers could not see with what design they would get the album. This was a marketing move, primarily aimed at increasing sales. However, the envelopes could be identified : on the outer package there was a small letter-from A to F, which indicated the version of the cover lying inside (on the envelope there was a scene in a bar, shot from different points). The album was a huge commercial success, especially in the United States, where it reached the No. 1 slot on Billboard's chart for just its second week on the chart, as well as hitting No. 1 in the UK, Canada and New Zealand, as well as the top 10 or 15 in a number of other countries. In Through the Out Door was the band's last studio release to reach the top of the US charts.
