Mark Freuder Knopfler is a British singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. He became known as the lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the rock band Dire Straits. He embarked on a solo career after the band first broke up in 1988. Dire Straits reunited in 1990, but broke up again in 1995. He is now an independent solo artist.
