European original. Golden Heart is the debut solo studio album by Mark Knopfler, released in 1996. Released a year after Dire Straits disbanded in 1995, Golden Heart was Mark Knopfler's debut solo album, although he had previously composed music for several feature films and released several collaborative albums with other musicians. Mark Freuder Knopfler is a British singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. He became known as the lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the rock band Dire Straits. He embarked on a solo career after the band first broke up in 1988. Dire Straits reunited in 1990, but broke up again in 1995. He is now an independent solo artist.
